Vevo’s YouTube account hack hits popular music videos, causes the biggest video ever (Despacito) to disappear.
Vevo, one of the famous music production house on YouTube representing the channel of biggest singers of the Hollywood and worldwide got many of its accounts hacked today by a group of hackers. The hackers had first renamed the video and included a creepy thumbnail with clowns holding guns and slogan of “free Palestine“. Not only this, the most ever watched video on YouTube, Despacito was deleted as well! Which was a great shock to the entire world.
Lots of other popular music videos have also defaced, including songs from Chris Brown, Shakira, DJ Snake, Selena Gomez, Drake, Katy Perry, and Taylor Swift. Some of those videos are still available, with defaced titles and thumbnail images. All of the affected music videos were uploaded to the artist’s Vevo YouTube accounts, and it’s not immediately clear whether the hackers gained access to individual accounts or if there was a wider exploit with Vevo accounts. At least one of the hackers claim that they used a “script” to alter the video titles.
Although YouTube took over the control as the video was brought back after a few hours with the same views as before and all other hacked videos were fixed as well. Although everything is back to normal. Yet, Vevo says that they are still trying to find the source of hackers who did all this. This event raises a question about how secure Google services are.
