Google Buys Fossil Smartwatch Tech for $40 Million
Smartwatches have been quite in use and popular among the masses for some time lately. And in fact, smartwatches, if used in a proper manner, can serve as a daily driver for you in various day to day activities. Be it health-related activities like going out for a walk in the morning or letting you know how many hours you sleep or providing you quick notification updates through your connected device is simply amazing.
And maybe that’s why tech giant Google seems to be interested in the business of smartwatches as well. And that’s why Google has agreed to pay $40 million (roughly Rs. 280 crores) for the smartwatch technology of the fashion and accessory group Fossil, the companies said Thursday, enabling the California tech giant to expand in the growing wearable tech market.
Fossil is certainly no doubt one of the most trusted watch brands out there. Fossil has been there since the time even smartphones weren’t evolved. And hence, Google’s partnership with Fossil smartwatch could provide them a better hand while entering into the smartwatches industry.
“Wearables, built for wellness, simplicity, personalization, and helpfulness, have the opportunity to improve lives by bringing users the information and insights they need quickly, at a glance,” said Stacey Burr, a vice president at Google Wear OS division.
Accounting to Google, the addition of Fossil to their smartwatches development department will provide a diverse portfolio to improve upon and just like Pixel devices Google will have its own branded smartwatches with latest software and enhancements.
Research firms have indicated that smartwatches industry will grow further and by that, we mean that by 2022, the market would have grown up 11 percent more compared to what we have as of now in 2018. Soon a time will come when saying Watches will literally mean Smartwatches.
