Oppo Pad Mini vs iPad mini India: The Real Price Gap

Small tablets are suddenly a real fight in India. The Oppo Pad Mini vs iPad mini question landed on 22 October, when Oppo launched its first compact tablet here at Rs 94,999, with sales opening on 29 October. Apple’s iPad mini (A17 Pro) has had this 8-inch corner mostly to itself, and it starts at Rs 69,900. So on paper the Oppo costs Rs 25,099 more. But paper is not where you pay.

We skipped the spec-sheet recital and did what matters before Diwali: worked out what each tablet really costs once you add a stylus, matched storage like for like, and built a 4-question Mini Tablet Money Test so you know which one fits your bag, and your budget.

The two contenders, in numbers

The real price gap, three ways

The Rs 25,099 headline gap is true for exactly one kind of buyer. Change who you are and the gap moves a lot.

Buyer 1: no stylus, light storage

You watch, read and scroll. The 128GB iPad mini at Rs 69,900 against the Oppo at Rs 94,999 is a Rs 25,099 gap. That is a big jump to pay for a better screen alone.

Buyer 2: no stylus, but you want 256GB

Match storage and the iPad mini 256GB costs Rs 81,900. Now the gap is Rs 13,099. Still real money, but now you are paying for a better screen and faster charging, not for extra storage.

Buyer 3: you want a pen and a cover

This is where the story flips. iPad mini 256GB plus Apple Pencil Pro comes to Rs 81,900 + Rs 11,900 = Rs 93,800, and you still need a case. The Oppo at Rs 94,999 includes its Pencil 3 Pro and Smart Case if you buy before 11 November. The gap shrinks to Rs 1,199, and the Oppo has the cover sorted. Basically barabar.

Bank offers can tilt this further either way, since Oppo lists up to 15 percent instant cashback and Apple runs card cashback and No Cost EMI till 11 November. Card offers change by the day, so run the final sum at checkout. Our effective price guide shows how to peel a stacked offer down to the real number.

Where each tablet actually wins

The screen: Oppo, by a distance

OLED against LCD, 144Hz against 60Hz, 1,600 nits peak against 500 nits. Do the pixel maths and the Oppo pushes about 4.2 million pixels to the iPad’s about 3.4 million, roughly 26 percent more on a slightly bigger panel. The matte finish matters in India too. Reading on a sunny train window or a balcony is exactly where glossy screens turn into mirrors. If you game, the 144Hz panel and Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 are the more exciting combo.

Thin and light: Oppo again

5.46mm and 282g against 6.3mm and 293g. Both are one-hand light, so treat this as a nice bonus, not a reason to buy.

Apps and software: iPad mini

This is Apple’s strongest card. iPadOS has years of apps built for tablet screens: note apps, drawing apps, PDF markup, study tools. Android tablet apps have improved, but many still feel like stretched phone apps. Students who live in notes and PDFs should weigh this heavily. One gap we noticed: Oppo has not put a headline number on years of updates for the Pad Mini that we could confirm, so check that before you buy.

Your phone decides more than you think

Already on an iPhone? AirDrop, iMessage and shared clipboard make the iPad mini feel like a bigger window into the same life. On an Oppo phone, the Pad Mini can jump onto the phone’s mobile data without you switching on a hotspot. Oppo also says it can sync messages and move files with Android and Apple devices, which helps mixed households. And if you are eyeing a Find X10 or X10 Pro Max, both go on sale the same day as the tablet.

The CyberIntro Mini Tablet Money Test

Answer these four in order. Stop at the first verdict that fits.

1. Will you use a pen at least twice a week?

If yes, the Oppo’s free Pencil 3 Pro and case wipe out most of the price gap before 11 November. Verdict: GO OPPO, unless question 3 says otherwise.

2. Is the budget hard-capped near Rs 70,000?

If yes, the 128GB iPad mini is the only one of the two that fits. Pause and check your storage first. If your photos and offline videos already eat 100GB, 128GB will feel cramped in a year. Verdict: GO IPAD MINI 128GB for streaming and reading, or save up for 256GB.

3. Do your must-have apps live on iPadOS?

Specific note-taking or drawing apps, a school that uses iPads, a workflow tied to a Mac or iPhone? Then the app library is worth the weaker screen. Verdict: GO IPAD MINI 256GB.

4. Is this mostly for video, games and reading outdoors?

Then screen quality is the job, and the Oppo does that job better on every number we listed. Verdict: GO OPPO, ideally with a bank offer on sale day.

If none of the four fit, honestly, skip both. A big-screen phone you already own, or a cheaper full-size tablet, may cover a casual binge-watcher for far less money.

Our take

The iPad mini is still the safe pick, but it is showing its age where you look most: a 60Hz LCD at nearly Rs 70,000 in late 2026 is not a flex. The Oppo Pad Mini is the better piece of hardware and, for pen users buying before 11 November, it costs nearly the same as an iPad mini with a Pencil. The catch is software. Apple’s tablet app world is deeper, and Oppo still has to prove its long-term update story in India.

Thinking of financing either one? The EMI fine print in our iPhone Duo buying guide applies here too: check whether No Cost EMI covers the tenure you want before you tap pay.

Final Thought

Do not compare Rs 69,900 with Rs 94,999 and stop there. Compare the tablet you will actually carry, with the pen, storage and case you will actually use. Do that maths, and the Oppo Pad Mini goes from “too expensive” to “seriously tempting”, while the iPad mini stays the pick for anyone whose apps and phone already speak Apple.
