German Antitrust to act against Facebook data collection

Facebook to Be Ordered to Stop Gathering User Data by German Antitrust Watchdog: Report

Facebook since the past one year has been the talk of the town because of the data breach that took place. And things don’t seem to stop there. Facebook’s methodology for the collection of user data has always been surrounded by numerous questions.

Many agencies have put in their efforts to stop and stand against Facebook for its uncontrolled way of collecting user data be it for advertising or for their own purposes.

Germany’s Antitrust Watchdog has now seemed to make up its mind to order Facebook to stop collecting user data. It accuses the tech giant of using data collected from its various users for various unwanted purposes. And that too without the knowledge or consent of the user.

Although, The Tech giant denies from the fact and clearly mentions off saying that they provide choice to the user regarding what and how much data do they want to be shared with us. A Facebook spokeswoman said the company disputes the watchdog’s findings and will continue to defend this position.

The investigation is being closely watched amid mounting concerns over leaks of data on tens of millions of Facebook users, as well as the use of social media by foreign powers seeking to influence elections in the United States.

Also, claims have been made that since the acquisition of WhatsApp by Facebook, things have become even worse as even WhatsApp has been used as a source of collecting information from users. Although, there’s no rock solid evidence against or in favor of the fact and seems to be quite hypothetical.

User Privacy in today’s usage of the Internet has become a highly sophisticated matter of concern. It is quite evident from all the facts that it is quite impossible to live along with social media without compromising much about yourself.
