Qualcomm Expects At Least Two 5G-Enabled Flagship Android Phones In 2019

Qualcomm has speculated that it expects that two flagship Android Phones with 5G support will be launched in 2019. One is expected to come early next year and the other one to arrive in the next half. Qualcomm is working on its new Snapdragon 675 Chipset with Snapdragon X50 Modem which will bring in 5G support. The same chipset rumored to be featured on the Mi Mix 3.

Earlier this year in July, Qualcomm announced QTM9052 with fully-integrated 5G NR millimeter wave (mmWave) modules. However, device makers had been struggling to fit the antenna modules in smartphones with edge-to-edge displays and thinner form factors. To address this issue, Qualcomm has reworked on the modules, and they are now 25 percent smaller in size. These antenna modules will work with the Snapdragon X50 5G modem. A total of 19 OEMs will be launching 5G-enabled smartphones, including the likes of Motorola, HTC, LG, Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi and Nokia. OnePlus has already confirmed that it will be among “one of the first” OEMs to launch a 5G enabled smartphone next year.

Xiaomi has also been teasing the Mi MIX 3 which will likely support 5G and come with 10GB of RAM. Well, of course, likes of Samsung and Huawei are missing from the list. Probably, because they are working on their own 5G solutions. It is also important to note that even though manufacturers bring 5G enabled devices, carrier side implementation is also equally important. Qualcomm is partnering about 18 carriers across the globe to push the 5G standard, and it remains to be seen how it pans out.
