Google, the search giant which provides almost all services on the internet. One of the Google’s service is goo.gl URL shortener service which is launched and popular since 2009. If you are accessing the internet, you must have sometimes come across Google’s URL shortener service.
This URL shortener service was extensively used by web developers, designers and for shortening huge links by almost everyone. But, Google in an official statement has declared that they’re ending goo.gl link shortener service. “Starting April 13, 2018, anonymous users and users who have never created short links before today will not be able to create new short links via the goo.gl console“, Michael Hermanto, Software Engineer, Firebase, wrote in a blog post on Saturday.
Although Google says that old links will continue to work for another one year period till March 30, 2019. After that, it will be discontinued forever. “If you have existing goo.gl short links, you can continue to use all features of the goo.gl console for a period of one year, until March 30, 2019, when we will discontinue the console,” the report added. Google has recommended other services such as Bitly and Ow.ly be used by people. goo.gl will certainly be missed.
