It’s been a long time since Qualcomm has been dominating the smartphone market. Now, its time they’re trying to land in the PC market as well. Now, they have decided to introduce a new series named Snapdragon 8cx exclusively for PCs. The processors will power up Windows PCs and will surely give a strong competition to Intel. Intel has been long-reigning the PC processor segment. Intel has got in so much that whenever it came to PCs, Intel was the only name in minds of people.

The biggest difference is the new Qualcomm chips will support Windows 10 Enterprise, the version of Microsoft’s popular operating system that is sold to businesses. Previous Qualcomm chips supported only the consumer versions of Windows, making business customers less likely to purchase computers powered by them.

On the contrary, Intel a few years ago had also tried getting in the smartphone segment launching their Intel Atom series seen first on Xolo Phones. But, even that series wasn’t a major hit for Intel. Similar thoughts might come in mind when it comes to the case of Qualcomm entering the PC segment. Qualcomm will have to be more careful and stringent to take over the monopoly over created by Intel. The “WinTel” has been ruling over the industry for long.

Qualcomm’s chips are powered by technology from SoftBank Group Corp-controlled Arm Holdings. Several companies – including Amazon.com‘s cloud division Amazon Web Services, a major Intel customer – are working to make ARM-based chips suitable for data centers.

It will be quite interesting to see how Qualcomm keeps up to the hopes of people in them.
