Nokia 8 Sirocco First Impressions: Price, Specifications and other Features:
Nokia has been in the limelight with the range of devices it has launched. Especially the nostalgia bringing Nokia 3310 really proved to be a boon for the brand. While the Nokia 8 was the talk of the town late 2017 and still is a decent value for money smartphone, what may pique your interest is the Nokia 8 Sirocco. Carrying a similar moniker the Nokia 8 Sirocco is not a variant or the successor to the Nokia 8.
The smartphone is HMD’s take on something new in the industry. The Nokia 8 Sirocco has an altogether different design and form factor. What it does have is the curved edge-to-edge screen, taking away the thunder of Samsung smartphones to some extent. Nokia 8 Sirocco seems a bit wider than usual (it’s not though). The 5.5-inch QHD pOLED screen is a good addition to the spec list and is well saturated. We will discover more about it in the coming days.
However, as far as we can observe in almost 24 hours of use, it adds to the ‘multimedia’ feature list for sure.Although moving towards a 3.5mm-less thin design is a step up for companies, given the price point this may prove to be a downside for many in the Nokia 8 Sirocco. There are just one USB Type-C slot and a mono speaker at the bottom. But HMD is not leaving Nokia fans disappointed. As you can see in our unboxing video, a Type-C to 3.5mm converter.
The device is to be launched with Snapdragon 835. But the price tag seems to be a bit hefty at 50k. We did try the camera and it wasn’t disappointing per say. Nokia 8 Sirocco, being one of the most powerful Android One smartphones in the market, has a dual rear camera setup with 12MP wide (f/1.7 aperture) and 13MP telephoto (f/2.6 aperture) sensors with Zeiss optics. At the front, there is a 5MP selfie camera. The camera was better than what we initially thought. Past records haven’t proven to be an impressive one for Android One smartphones for their cameras. With ‘Sirocco’ you also get the Dual-Sight feature, Pro mode and much more. The UI is easy to handle.
We’re not a big fan of camera bumps, something that is present with the Nokia 8 Sirocco. Not only does it bring an element of uneven-ness in the design but also makes the handset wobbly while trying to work keeping the device on a flat surface. Being an Android One device also gives it an edge to receive regular updates all the time.
